"Ladies and Gentlemen, Rock and Roll."
Where were you on August 1, 1981 at 12:01 a.m.? (Please don't tell me you weren't born yet.)
This was the moment Video Killed The Radio Star with the launch of MTV!
Music videos began playing on T.V. thirty years ago this month 24/7 with your VJ hosts Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter (No, that's not Mork from Ork), Martha Quinn and J.J. Jackson.
Now, The Buggles had the first video on MTV but.....
The First Woman
The First American
The First Rocker was......
Pat Benatar!

"You Better Run" was the second video played on MTV. It starred Pat Benatar and her husband lead guitarist Neil Giraldo.
Her hits include "Love Is A Battlefield," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "We Belong," "Fire And Ice," "Invincible," "Hell Is For Children," "You Better Run," and "Treat Me Right."
Here she is singing with her husband Neil.
She's a four-time Grammy winner for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
I was lucky enough to see her perform live at an outdoor concert!
While we were enjoying the music a beautiful sunny day turned into a dark moonlit night.
I never claimed to be the best videographer. Pretend I meant to have their faces be white blobs and the view of my purse on the ground at the end is a classic. Oh, and while singing this song she swallowed a bug!

I hate to tell you, Itsy, that I wasn't born yet. (Me or Socko.) I wish I could've been alive when MTV honestly meant Music Television! My mom loves Pat Benatar, and I know some of her songs. Great pictures! Love, Jillian and Socko ♪♫♪
ReplyDeleteHi Jillian and Socko,
ReplyDeleteI knew someone was going to tell me they weren't born yet! I'm glad your mom appreciates the 80s. Love the hat in your photo. I just got back from JC Penney and the teen dept. has sock monkey hats, gloves and earmuffs. We are so ahead of our time.
